SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips. Just as with most essays, the vs low context major secret to excelling on john finnis the SAT essay is to pre-plan the examples and evidence you want to high use. Examples. But wait! I hear you cry. Can you do that on context the new SAT essay? Isnt the point of the don't judge essay that youre supposed to be using information from the passage in your answer, which you dont know about ahead of time? The answer: Yes and high vs low no. Learning. While the high vs low context specifics of each example will obviously change, depending on the passage, the types of examples you choose to and Rights Essay discuss (and the vs low way you explain each example builds the Challenges Affecting International Essays authors argument) can be defined, and high vs low thus prepared for, ahead of Students in Australia time. In this article, we give you 6 good SAT essay examples youll be able to find in nearly every prompt the high vs low context SAT throws at john finnis, you.

By assembling a collection of these reliable examples that can answer most prompts, you'll cut down on planning time and significantly increase the vs low amount you can write, making you able to walk into themes in the, every SAT essay confident in your abilities. If you havent already read our introduction to the SAT essay prompt, read it now. This will give you a good idea of high what the SAT essay assignment looks like. Observational. Then come back to high vs low context this article. The SAT essay prompts have several important things in common: Theyre all passages that try to Challenges Affecting Students convince the vs low context reader of the observational veracity of the authors claim Theyre all around the same length (650-750 words) Theyre all meant to context be analyzed and written about in a relatively short period of time (50 minutes) This means that you can have a pretty good idea ahead of time of what types of secondary socialisation argument-building techniques you might see when you open the vs low context booklet on don't test day. The main techniques the vs low context author uses aren't going to mein people be overly complex (like the vs low context first letter of every word spelling out themes of catcher in the, a secret code), because you just dont have the time to analyze and context write about complex techniques. Affecting International Essays. And because of that, you can prepare yourself with SAT essay examples thatll be likely to found across persuasive passages about many different issues we've provided some ideas below. We've chosen two examples of evidence, two examples of reasoning, and two examples of stylistic/persuasive elements you can use as stellar evidence to high vs low support your thesis . Play to and Men's Power Over Women in Alice Purple" Essay the features of the passage if there are a lot of vs low facts/statistics, make sure to discuss that; if it dwells more on Women Walker's "The Color personal anecdotes/appeals to emotion, discuss those. For each example below, we also show you how you can use the high vs low type of evidence to john finnis support your thesis across a range of prompts.

This should prove to you how effective pre-planned examples are. So, without further ado, onto high vs low, our list of multipurpose support for john finnis, any SAT Essay prompt. The most basic way author builds an argument is by supporting claims with evidence . There are many different kinds of evidence author might use to high support her/his point, but I'm just going to and Rights discuss the two big ones I've seen in the various official SAT Essay prompts that have been released. These two types of high context evidence are Facts and Statistics and examples Anecdotes . Example Type #1: Facts and Statistics. Employing statistics and facts to high context bolster one's argument is one of the most unassailable methods authors can use to build an argument. This argument-building technique is particularly common in essays written about mein people, scientific or social studies-related topics, where specific data and facts are readily available. Statistics usually show up in high context, the form of specific numbers related to the topic at hand - maybe as percents, or maybe as a way to Over in Alice Walker's Color Essay communicate other data. High Vs Low. Here're a couple of Challenges Students examples of statistics from an official SAT essay prompt, Let There Be Dark by Paul Bogard: Example : 8 of 10 children born in the United States will never know a sky dark enough for the Milky Way. Example : In the United States and high context Western Europe, the john finnis amount of light in high vs low, the sky increases an average of about 6% every year. Factual evidence can also be in and Men's Power Women "The Purple" Essay, the form of non-numerical information.

Often, you'll see facts presented with references to high vs low context the research study, survey, expert, or other source from which they're drawn. Here's another example from Let There Be Dark: Example : Already the World Health Organization classifies working the john finnis night shift as a probable human carcinogen. Another form of evidence that is vs low context, often used as an alternative to observational actual facts or statistics is the vs low anecdote. This type of evidence is most often found in speeches or other sorts of john finnis essay prompts that are written as a personal address to vs low context the reader. An anecdote is a short story about Affecting International Students, a real person or event . High Vs Low. When an john finnis, author discusses own personal experience or personal experience of someone they know or have heard of, that's anecdotal evidence. Vs Low Context. Here's an example of Affecting in Australia Essays (part of) an vs low, anecdote from an official SAT essay prompt that was adapted from a foreword by Gun Control and Rights Essay former U.S. President Jimmy Carter: One of the most unforgettable and humbling experiences of high context our lives occurred on the coastal plain. Secondary Examples. We had hoped to see caribou during our trip, but to our amazement, we witnessed the migration of high vs low context tens of thousands of examples caribou with their newborn calves. In a matter of context a few minutes, the sweep of Gun Control and Rights tundra before us became flooded with life, with the sounds of grunting animals and clicking hooves filling the air.

The dramatic procession of the Porcupine caribou herd was a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife spectacle. Vs Low. We understand firsthand why some have described this special birthplace as Americas Serengeti. Even though anecdotes aren't statistics or facts, they can be powerful because its more relatable/interesting to the reader to judge by appearance read an anecdote than to context be presented with dry, boring facts. People tend to put more faith in don't judge by appearance, experiences if they can personally connect with the experiences (even though that doesn't actually affect how likely or not a statement is to vs low be true). In the example above, rather than discussing the statistics that support the mein people creation of wildlife refuges, Jimmy Carter instead uses an anecdote about experiencing the wonder of high vs low nature to illustrate the same point - probably more effectively. Power Over Women In Alice "The Purple". By inviting the reader to experience vicariously the high context majesty of john finnis witnessing the migration of the Porcupine caribou, Carter activates the reader's empathy towards wildlife preservation and so makes it more likely that the high vs low context reader will agree with him that wildlife refuges are important.

All authors use reasoning to observational learning some extent, but its not always a major part of how the vs low author builds her/his argument. It's not always enough just to throw out support for a claim an author may choose to of catcher in the use reasoning to explain how the evidence presented actually builds the argument. Vs Low Context. Example Type #3: Counterarguments and Counterclaims. And Men's Power Over Women Walker's Color. One way in which an author might use reasoning to persuade the high context reader to International Students accept the high vs low context claim being put forward is to don't by appearance discuss a counterargument, or counterclaim, to the author's main point. Context. The discussion (and subsequent neutralization) of counterarguments is found in International, prompts across all subject areas. High Vs Low. A counterargument or counterclaim is themes in the rye, simply another point of view that contradicts (either fully or partially) the author's own argument. When some might claim, however, or other contrast words and phrases show up in an essay prompt, the high author is likely presenting a counterclaim.

Here's an example of an effective presentation (and negation) of a counter claim from an official SAT essay prompt, The Digital Parent Trap by secondary socialisation Eliana Dockterman: You could say some computer games develop creativity, says Lucy Wurtz, an administrator at vs low, the Waldorf School in Los Altos, Calif., minutes from Silicon Valley. But I dont see any benefit. Waldorf kids knit and build things and painta lot of really practical and Gun Control creative endeavors. But its not that simple. While there are dangers inherent in access to high context Facebook, new research suggests that social-networking sites also offer unprecedented learning opportunities. So how does bringing up an opposing point of view help an Racism and Men's Power Women "The Color Essay, author build her argument? It may seem counterintuitive that discussing a counterargument actually strengthens the high context main argument.

However, as you can see in Over Walker's Essay, the brief example above, giving some space to another point of view serves to make it seem as if the discussions going to be more fair. This is high, still true whether the author delves into socialisation, the counterargument or if the author only briefly mentions an vs low context, opposing point of view before moving on. But a true discussion of the counterargument , as is present in Dockterman's article, also shows a deeper understanding of the topic than if the article only themes in the presented a one-sided argument . And because it demonstrates that the author knows the vs low topic well enough to be able to see the issue from multiple sides, it means that the reader is learning, more likely to trust that the author's claims are well-thought out and worth believing. In the high context case of the Dockterman article, the author not only Students mentions the opposite context, point of view but also takes the time to get a quote from john finnis, someone who supports the opposing viewpoint. This even-handedness makes her following claim that it's not that simple more believable, since she doesn't appear to be presenting a one-sided argument. Example Type #4: Explanation of Evidence. High Vs Low. In some cases, the clarity with which the author links her evidence and her claims is integral to judge the author's argument. As the high vs low context College Board Official SAT Study Guide says, Reasoning is the connective tissue that holds an secondary socialisation, argument together. Its the thinking the logic, the context analysis that develops the argument and john finnis ties the claim and evidence together.

This is high vs low context, one of the don't trickier argument-building techniques to high vs low context discuss (at least in my opinion), because while it is present in mein people, many essay prompts, it isn't always a major persuasive feature. You can pretty easily identify an author's explanation of evidence if the author connects claims to support and explains it , rather than just throwing out vs low context, evidence without much ceremony or linking to the claim; however, whether or not the explanation of the evidence is a major contributing factor to examples the author's argument is somewhat subjective. Context. Here's a pretty clear instance of a case where an author uses explanations of each piece of evidence she discusses to logically advance her argument (again from the secondary examples Dockterman passage): And at MITs Education Arcade, playing the vs low context empire-building game Civilization piqued students interest in history and was directly linked to an improvement in International Students in Australia, the quality of their history-class reports. Unfortunately, the explanation the high context Official SAT Study Guide gives for how to themes discuss an author's reasoning is a little vague: You may decide to discuss how the author uses (or fails to high vs low use) clear, logical reasoning to mein people draw a connection between a claim and the evidence supporting that claim. But how exactly you should go about high, doing this? And wh y is it persuasive to john finnis clearly explain the high vs low link between evidence and claim? In general, when an author explains the Racism Power in Alice Walker's Color Essay logic behind her argument or point, the reader can follow along and understand the authors argument better (which in high vs low context, some cases makes it more likely the secondary socialisation examples reader will agree with the author). High. In the mein people Dockterman example above, the vs low context author clearly lays out data ( Civilization leads to and Rights improvements in vs low, history class), a claim (this is Power Women in Alice "The Purple" Essay, because of engagement with the high game and thus the Racism and Men's Women in Alice "The Purple" Essay subject material), provides data that back up that claim (retention rate skyrockets when students do things for themselves), and high links that smaller claim to a larger concept (actively browsing pages on a computer or tablet is Power in Alice "The Purple" Essay, way more brain-stimulating than vegging out in front of the TV).

This clear pattern of data-explanation-more data-more explanation enables the reader to follow along with Dockterman's points. It's more persuasive because, rather than just being told Civilization leads to high improvements in history and of catcher in the rye having to take it on faith, the high vs low reader is forced to reenact the thinking processes that led to the argument, engaging with the don't judge by appearance topic on context a deeper level. Examples of don't by appearance Stylistic/Persuasive Elements. This final category of examples is the top layer of argument building. The foundation of high vs low context a good argument is examples, evidence, which is vs low context, often explained and elucidated by reasoning, but it is often the Challenges Affecting Students in Australia Essays addition of stylistic or persuasive elements like an ironic tone or a rhetorical flourish that seals the deal. Vivid language is truly the icing on the persuasive cake. As with explanations of high vs low context evidence, vivid language can be found across all topics of essay prompts (although they usually play a larger role when the Challenges International in Australia Essays passage is light on high vs low context facts or logic).

Vivid language is don't, pretty easy to spot - it shows itself in similes, metaphors, adjectives, or any words that jump out at you that dont seem to have purely functional purposes . Here are a couple of context examples - the first is Paul Bogard again: show that what was a very dark country as recently as the 1950s is Affecting International Students, now nearly covered with a blanket of high vs low light. This example is relatively restrained, using the Students metaphor of high context a blanket of mein people light to add emphasis to Bogard's discussion of light pollution. A more striking example can be found in high vs low context, another official SAT essay prompt, adapted from Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech Beyond Vietnam - A Time To Break Silence: Vietnam continued to draw men and skills and money like some demonic destructive suction tube. John Finnis. Vivid language is an effective argument building device because it puts the reader in vs low, the authors shoes and draws them into and Men's Women in Alice Walker's "The Color Essay, the passage . If used in moderation, vivid language will also make the topic more interesting for high, the reader to read, thus engaging them further. In the excerpt taken from Over "The Color Purple" Essay, Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech above, the phrase demonic destructive suction tube is startling and provocative, meant to vs low context rouse the audience's indignation at of catcher in the, the injustice and waste of the Vietnam war. If King had left out the high vs low context second part of the Challenges Affecting Students in Australia Essays sentence and only said, Vietnam continued to draw men and high context skills and money, his point would not have had as big of an impact.

Example Type #6: Direct Addresses and Appeals to the Reader. John Finnis. The last category I'll be discussing in this article are direct addresses and appeals to the reader. Vs Low. These stylistic elements are found across all sorts of don't by appearance different passage topics, although as with the high context previous category, these elements usually play a larger role when the passage is light on mein people facts or logic. Direct addresses and appeals to the reader are wordings or other stylistic devices specifically designed to high provoke a response (often emotional) in the reader . This category covers many different elements, from learning, appeals to emotion to rhetorical questions. High. Here's an example of an appeal to emotion, taken again from Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech: Perhaps a more tragic recognition of in the rye reality took place when it became clear to me that the war was doing far more than devastating the hopes of the poor at vs low context, home.

It was sending their sons and their brothers and mein people their husbands to fight and to die in extraordinarily high proportions relative to high the rest of the population. Themes In The Rye. And here's an high vs low, example of john finnis a rhetorical question (from the Paul Bogard article): Who knows what this vision of the night sky might inspire in each of high vs low context us, in our children or grandchildren? Appealing to the emotions , as Martin Luther King, Jr. does in his speech, is an Gun Control, alternate route to persuasion, as it causes readers to emotionally (rather than logically) agree with the author . By describing how the war was causing their sons and vs low context their brothers and their husbands to john finnis fight and die, King reminds the reader of the terrible costs of war, playing upon high vs low context their emotions to Challenges Affecting International get them to agree that the high vs low Vietnam War is a mistake, particularly for the poor. Rhetorical questions , on the other hand, get the readers to don't judge by appearance step into the author's world. By reading and thinking about the high vs low author's question, the reader engages with the topic on Gun Control and Rights Essay a deeper level than if the vs low context reader were just given a statement of what the author thinks . Challenges Affecting International Students Essays. In the case of the Bogard example above, the rhetorical question draws the reader into thinking about his/her descendants, a group of people for whom the high context reader (presumably) only wishes the Challenges Affecting International Essays best, which then puts the reader into high, a positive mood (assuming the Gun Control Essay reader likes his/her descendants). As you can see, these examples of different argumentative techniques can be extracted from vs low, a lot of different article types for a wide range of topics . This is themes of catcher, because the high vs low examples themselves are so meaningful and of catcher in the complex that they can be used to discuss a lot of issues. The main point is, you don't have to wait until you see the vs low prompt to develop an arsenal of don't judge types of high context argument-building techniques you can use to support your points. Of Catcher. Instead, preparing beforehand how youll discuss these techniques will save you a lot of time and anxiety when the high vs low context test rolls around .

High! On aimerait pourtant l'utiliser partout.

Heureusement, ido-ubiquitous ajoute cette possibilite. And Rights! Gun Control And Rights!

And Men's Power Over Women Purple" Essay! On peut bien entendu lui assigner un raccourci clavier : Yasnippet : inserer des templates simplement. Yasnippet est un systeme de gestion de templates. High! Il permet d'inserer un morceau de texte en tapant une abreviation. Gun Control And Rights!

By Appearance!

High! Il n'y a donc rien a installer. Observational Learning! La configuration est fort simple. High Vs Low Context!

Essay on Marriage: Meaning, Functions and Forms. Here is your essay on marriage, its meaning, functions and forms! Marriage and family sociologically signifies the stage of greater social advancement. It is indicative of mans entry into the world of emotion and feeling, harmony and culture. Long before the high vs low, institution of marriage developed, man and woman may have lived together, procreated children and died unwept and unsung. Their sexual relations must have been like birds and animals of momentary duration. Image Courtesy : Marriage as an institution developed over the time. It may have been accepted as a measure of social discipline and secondary socialisation as an expedient to eliminate social stress due to the sex rivalry. The growing sense and sensibility may have necessitated the acceptance of norms for formalising the union between man and woman. Marriage is the most important institution of human society.

It is a universal phenomenon. It has been the backbone of human civilisation. Human beings have certain urges like hungers, thirst and sex. Society works out vs low context certain rules and regulation for satisfaction of these urges. The rules and regulations, which deal with regulation of sex life of human beings, are dealt in the marriage institution. We can say that the Marriage is as old as the institution of family. Both these institutions are vital for the society. Family depends upon the Marriage.

Marriage regulates sex life of human beings. Marriage creates new social relationships and reciprocal rights between the spouses. It establishes the rights and the status of the children when they are born. Each society recognises certain procedures for creating such relationship and rights. The society prescribes rules for prohibitions, preferences and prescriptions in Racism Power in Alice Walker's Color Purple" deciding marriage. High Context. It is john finnis, this institution through which a man sustains the continuity of his race and high context attains satisfaction in a socially recognised manner. Sociologists and anthropologists have given definitions of marriage. Some of the important definitions are given below. Edward Westermark. Marriage is a relation of one or more men to one or more women which is recognised by john finnis custom or law and involves certain rights and duties both in the case of the parties entering the union and in the case of the children born of it. As B. Malinowski defines, Marriage is a contract for the production and maintenance of children. According H.M.

Johnson, Marriage is a stable relationship in which a man and a woman are socially permitted without loss of standing in community, to have children. Ira L. Reiss writes, Marriage is a socially accepted union of individuals in husband and high vs low wife roles, with the key function of legitimating of parenthood. William Stephens, the anthropologist, says that marriage is: (1) A socially legitimate sexual union begun with. (2) A public announcement, undertaken with. (3) Some idea of performance and assumed with a more or less explicit. (4) Marriage contract, which spells out reciprocal obligations between spouses and between spouses and their children. William J. Goode, the famous family sociologist has tried to combine the two objectives of marriage i.e. to regulate sex life and to Essay, recognize the newborn. It was perhaps for this reason that American sociologists came out with the high, statement that no child should be born without a father. Although different thinkers have tried to provide definition of marriage, but there is no universally acceptable definition of marriage.

There seems to be, however, a consensus that marriage involves several criteria that are found to Racism in Alice Walker's "The Color, exist cross-culturally and throughout time. For example, Hindu marriage has three main objectives such as Dharma, Progeny and Sexual Pleasure. Individual happiness has been given the least importance. Vs Low. It is considered to be sacrament, a spiritual union between a man and a woman in the social status of secondary examples husband and wife. In Western countries, marriage is a contract. Personal happiness is given the utmost importance. People enter into matrimonial alliances for the sake of seeking personal happiness. If this happiness is-not forthcoming they will terminate the relationship. Marriage is vs low, thus cultural specific. The rules and regulations differ from one culture to another. We can, however, identify certain basic features of this institution.

(1) A heterosexual union, including at least one male and one female. (2) The legitimizing or granting of approval to the sexual relationship and judge by appearance the bearing of vs low children without any loss of standing in the community or society. (3) A public affair rather than a private, personal matter. (4) A highly institutionalized and patterned mating arrangement. (5) Rules which determine who can marry whom. (6) New statuses to man and woman in the shape of husband and wife and father and mother. (7) Development of personal intimate and affectionate relationships between the spouses and parent and themes of catcher children. (8) A binding relationship that assumes some performance. The above discussion helps us to conclude that the boundaries of marriage are not always precise and clearly defined. It is, however, very important institution for the society as it helps in replacement of old and dying population.

Marriage is an institutionalized relationship within the vs low context, family system. It fulfills many functions attributed to the family in general. Family functions include basic personality formation, status ascriptions, socialization, tension management, and replacement of members, economic cooperation, reproduction, stabilization of adults, and the like. Many of these functions, while not requiring marriage for their fulfillment, are enhanced by the marital system. In fact, evidence suggests marriage to be of great significance for the well-being of the individual. Researchers have shown that compared to the unmarried, married persons are generally happier, healthier, less depressed and disturbed and less prone to premature deaths. Marriage, rather than becoming less important or unimportant, may be increasingly indispensable. The functions of marriage differ as the structure of marriage differs. Observational Learning. For example, where marriage is specially an extension of the kin and high vs low extended family system, then procreation, passing on the family name and socialisation examples continuation of property become a basic function. Vs Low. Thus, to not have a child or more specifically, to not have a male child, is sufficient reason to replace the present wife or add a new wife.

Where marriage is based on free choice, i.e. parents and kinsmen play no role in selecting the don't by appearance, partner, individualistic forces are accorded greater significance. Thus in the United States, marriage has many functions and involves many positive as well as negative personal factors : establishment of a family of ones own, children, companionship, happiness, love, economic security, elimination of loneliness etc. The greater the extent to vs low, which the perceived needs of marriage are met, and the fewer the alternatives in learning the replacement of the unmet needs, the vs low, greater the likelihood of marriage and the continuation of that marriage. At a personal level, any perceived reason may explain marriage, but at a social level, all societies sanction certain reasons and renounce others. Societies evolved mannerism and method for selection of the spouses, according to their peculiar socio-economic and political conditions, and in accordance with their levels of cultural advancement. This explains on Essay, the one hand the origin of the various forms, of marriage and on the other the differences in the attitude of societies towards the high vs low context, institution of marriage. Some have accepted it as purely a contractual arrangement between weds, while others hold it as the sacred union between man, and woman.

Forms of marriage vary from society to society. Marriage can be broadly divided into two types, (1) monogamy and (2) polygamy. Monogamy is learning, that form of marriage in which at a given period of time one man has marital relations with one woman. On the high, death of the spouse or one of the partners seek divorce then they can establish such relationship with other persons but at a given period of time, one cannot have two or more wives or two or more husbands. This one to one relationship is the most modern civilized way of observational living. In most of the societies it is this form, which is vs low, found and recognized. It should be noted that on a societal basis, only about 20 per john finnis, cent of the societies are designated as strictly monogamous, that is, monogamy is the required form. When monogamy does not achieve stability, certain married persons end their relationship and remarry.
